Which part of China should I tour? It's my FIRST trip.?

I'm not too interested in climbing high mountains to see temples. Other than visit Beijing to see the Great Wall of China, where should I go?

Where are the places that have many shopping malls that sell cheap and affordable items like women's clothings, shoes and accessories?

Is Shenzhen a nice place to visit? Where are the places that I can go?

How is security like in local hotels? Will a 3-4 stars hotel be safe for foreigners or should I stick with 5 stars hotel? I want to tour China for about 2 weeks so I do not want to join tours with planned itinerary.

Btw, I am fluent in the Chinese language and dialects of Fujian and Guangzhou so I have no problem reading signs and Chinese characters as well as asking for directions. I'm only worried as i am not familiar with China since it is my first trip there.

I have only been to Beijing and Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong we did take a side trip over to Macau. I enjoyed the trip because they are 2 very different places. Hong Kong did have wonderful shopping. Beijing also had a flea market type shopping place, it is a 4 or 5 story building now, but apparently it used to be outside. Everyone there knew what we were talking about when we wanted to go. I did go through a travel agency, but we were actually on our own in Hong Kong for the whole time. In Beijing we had a guide, which was helpful for us since we only spoke English. If I spoke/understood Chinese I wouldn't have wanted to have the guide. We stayed in 3/4 star hotels and never worried about security. The rooms had safes in the closet which is always nice. We felt safe on our own all the time.
Reply:i went over to china last year with friend we stayed in backpacker style accomodation and it was fine so 3/4* will be the hilton!

we went from hong kong (the skyline cant be missed if you have time, but it'll effect your chinese visa so careful) then up to beijing, very cool watch for the great wall though some trips take you up for a couple of hours and then wizz you back, ours dropped us and we had a hard slog 5 hour walk to meet it at another spot!!

chengdu very cool to see the panda breeding centre, not alot else but worth it.

Dali further down south is an amazingly chilled town to spend a couple of days. and for sights guilin to yangshou on the river is a must!! have fun x
Reply:i say Xian %26amp; Shanghai are coolest if u dont wanna go to Beijing. im currently living in shanghai and there are a few things to do. it will take up...meh....3 mabey 4 days to see it all. Xian of cource has the terracotta warriors and that massive wall all around it. but the time of year i was in Xian it was very dreearry(sorry im a bad speller). other than that Honk Kong is nice and so is BeiJing.
Reply:Great Wall is the first choice:

Beware of pickpocket ,take extra care of your belongings(especial in shenzhen).you can join local tour for Great wall in Beijing.ask reception for detalis.
Reply:i think you should go to 丽江(li jiang)[attention:it is 丽江,not 漓江]

it is a quiet and beautiful water village, and also a famous tourism place which is called the Eastern Venice.
Reply:Go to Harbin, Qingdao and if possible Xinjiang

Do not forget Liaoning
Reply:I'm a foreigner lived in china befor. china is a peaceful place tobe nobody even care about you doing just mind your business or whatever your going for. but just becareful with money because chinese peoples like money. so once your a foreigner if a goods is sold for 10yuan possible the price maybe double but still depend how you price and the value you guest it's in your own country. shenzhen, guangzhou are nice places to cheap stuffs. but not what you had in TV AND RADON's about nown western countries like asia and africa are true.
Reply:after Beijing, go to Xian, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai cities... great wonderful cities of history and economic progress...

shopping, go to the Silk Market in Beijing City, incredible bargains...

China is very safe for foreign tourists, their policemen don't even carry guns!

suggest you buy a copy of Lonely Planet about China or research the internet, so no need to join tours...to be more adventurous, ride the efficient trains from Beijing to Xian, then go to Chengdu, then go Hangzhou and Shanghai...

China is a wonderful place to visit as tourists...

Enjoy your trip!
