Making climbing shoes sticky again?

Is there a product, (such as a glue-like substance, liquid rubber, or a spray) that makes the soles of climbing shoes sticky again?

Making climbing shoes sticky again?
I have never had any problems with my shoes losing their stickiness. I always make sure to clean them each time I'm finished using them and allow them to dry in a cool place. Excessive heat can warp the rubber and excessive wear can do the same. You will either need to get new shoes (which is better than getting a pair resoled) or try the "clean and scrub" method to freshen up the rubber. Here's a link to a quick paragraph written by the Mountain Equipment Co-Op regarding shoe maintenance if you want to read more:

It's worth a shot to save your shoes...otherwise, I'd buy new ones. I know I wouldn't trust MY life on some spray-on substances! :o)

Take care and rock on! ;o)
Reply:Try soaking the soals in hot water and scrubing w/ a toothbrush.
Reply:Never heard of any ... You can resole them but it is relatively expensive and the results are never equal to a new shoe. Plus shoes also get lose after use, etc. So buy new shoes and use these in a gym.
Reply:You do NOT need to get them resoled - in fact I would recommend against it as shoes don't always fit the same after being resoled.

If you have had a pair of rock shoes for many years, this will happen - the rubber will oxidize and get hard on the surface. You can have a thin layer of the rubber ground off or use a wire brush to buff off the layer of hardened rubber.

I have an old pair of trad shoes that I only use a couple of times per year and this always does the trick.

Good Luck
Reply:Probably your best bet is to get your shoes resoled.

Or take a wire brush and rough up the surface a little bit to revitalize it.
Reply:New shoes. or get your's resoled at a specialty climbing shop.

What are you going to do if this glue fails???
Reply:Alrighty-dighty. So, I don't believe that there is something that will re-stick your climbing shoes, but hey, maybe they are inventing something right now. It seems to me that if there were such a product, it would rub off as you climb on the rocks. I think that the best thing that you can do is to go to a climbing store, or G.I Joe's/REI and have them re-sole your climbing shoes. They will just replace your current sole with a new one, but it depends on how much your shoes costed before, you may want to just go and get a new pair, because I don't think that re-soling your shoes is gunna' be cheap.

Mucho Mucho luck to you!
