So recently I've been getting into rock climbing, and have been doing it alot. I bought all the gear including shoes (which are very expensive I might add). I also got a membership to a local climbing gym. I really don't know alot as far as shoes go, so when I bought mine, I was pretty lost. I did know that they fit really tight and that you needed to get 1/2 to a full size smaller than your usual size. So, I bought them and they fit well, they just kill my feet. My toes feel so cramped down there at the end. I've heard that there is brands and companies that sell shoes specific for my feet type, I just don't know which ones.
Please help.
What kind/brand of rock climbing shoes are good for people with slender feet with big long toes?
5.10 make some shoes that are just amazing. However the best bet is to go to an outdoor store and try a few different ones on. I have been climbing for a few years, and as I get better, my choice for shoes changes. Example I went out this weekend and I put my very first pair on, it was awful. I ended up giving them away...
To get back to your question, the type also depends on what you are climbing...
As for shoes you have a few types;
Sport, all-purpose, and slippers.
sport shoes are flexible with low-volume fit and arched soles These highly-sensitive design squeezes your feet, so you can power edges off the toe. They are ideal for short, steep burst of climbing. Not good for long long routs.
Slippers are flexible. they do not edge very well, not good for starters. So if you are just starting find a good all purpose, that is what I started with. Then move up to something more aggressive
Reply:I like Evolvs, because they are a little more comfortable than most others, having a bit of an insole to them, but it's all about your foot shape. For example, Scarpas have an in-turn, where it actually forces your toes toward the inside of your foot, and Anasazis have a super-extreme arch, that controts your foot into the shape of a rainbow. The best I hve seen are either Mad-Rocks, which tear up too quickly, La Sportivas, that seem to be the most "Normal" of all climbing shoes, or Evolvs, that I personally think are the best.

Reply:It really depends on what you are climbing. For bouldering I recommend wearing evolvs and getting about two sizes smaller than your street shoes. For multi pitch climbing I recommend Five Ten or La Sportiva depending on which one fits your arch, since you have slender feet I would get La Sportiva and with these you want your toes to be a little bent that way you can grow into them.
Reply:When I first started climbing, all my friends told me to buy some really tight shoes. Now that I have been climbing for 5 years or more, I have lots of different shoes. I now make sure I do not buy too tight of shoes, because of the type of climbing that I like to do which requires me to have them on for hours at a time.
Tight shoes are for really hard edging, if you are not climbing that hard you would be better off feeling comfortable in your right size shoe, instead of a half size too small.
