What are some darn good vegetarian shoes?

My dad is afraid that any attempt to purchase things off the internet will lead us to the life of Riley and so those cute, obvious websites like "vegetarianshoes.org" mean nothing to me.

Just name any store where I can get a solid, dependable pair of unintentionally veg. shoes. Footlocker, Journeys store, etc, and name the brand. I'm looking for a shoe that's a little puffy, snug, and has really good-gripping track on the bottom. Shoes that you can climb steep hills in and that can stand getting a little wet.

I made this board because (horror upon horrors) I did NOT check the details of a pair of shoes I got and found out they are SUEDE. How does one miss that? One misses that through mental retardation and the "Oooh, pretty" factor. And what kind of hypocrite vegan would I be wearing leather? I'm checking online as well, but advice from my dearest elder vegans would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well if you really care, you'd also buy sweatshop free shoes because it doesn't make sense to buy animal cruelty free shoes but contribute to cruelty to people. You can find New Balance shoes in just about any athletic shoe store that sells brand name sneakers. Most are vegan and some are also made in the US, meaning some of it has to be sweatshop free. Macbeth brand shoes are sometimes also vegan and made in the US, you can find those in Journeys.
Reply:I'm not a dear elder vegan, but my son was a vegan for most of his fashion-important high school years. Luckily, he didn't really give a rip what he wore, as along as it was comfortable and hadn't caused any animals discomfort. Shopping was a real challenge back then.

The young man would only wear shoes that combined fabric and rubber--in other words, carefully chosen athletic shoes. I couldn't even begin to tell you what brands to check or what styles in other brands. You'll have to check to make sure that there is no leather logo or decoration on them.

Good luck to you. I admire your values.

Oh, and his belts were always that nylon webbing type stuff. The poor boy looked like a middle aged golfer around his middle, but now I think I'd check outdoors-rock climbing type stores for belts.
Reply:To get choice you will need to go to the web, there just isn't the market for veggie shoes in the high street.

Reply:my shoes are Nike's and they don't eat any meat at all
Reply:There's a website called The Vegetarian Site, which offers shoes, belts, bags, wallets, and other items suitable for vegans. Most are on discounted rates compared to other websites.

Sorry, but all the sources I know are online. I haven't found any stores that carry these brands.

Good luck!
