Rock climbing shoes: tight fit or comfy?

I am new to climbing and lots of people say rock climbing shoes should be really tight, even two sizes smaller. What is the reason for this?

Rock climbing shoes: tight fit or comfy?
You don't want them to slip around but you don't want to cut off the circulation to your feet. Make them snug and wear good socks.
Reply:i did a science fair proj and you shouldnt really want to wear socks, ur foot will move around to much. u dont wat ur foot to move around, it defeats the purpose of wearing them snug Report It

Reply:my shoes are so tight that my feet blister%26amp;bleed.That might sound stupid but it makes it much easier to smear when there's no available holds or cracks..

(continued) Report It

Reply:when they're this tight the shoe bends when you bend your foot (other wise you're trying to grip with your toes and it's wasted effort if the soe isn't moving.) Tight is the only way to go-you just have to live with the pain. Report It

Reply:my climbing shoes is far from comfortable.get shoes a size or 2 sizes smaller as they tend 2 expand later on.your feet is supposed 2 b 'squashed' in2 a shoe,so tht u get good grips while climbing. i dont wear socks whn i climb.comfortable shoes r usually 4 long climbs. Report It

Reply:my shoes are sooo painful! but they work. me and my firends have tyo take them off in between climbs. they should be very tight. and dont wear socks. dont be suprised to see blisteres and "climbers knobs" its ok. Report It

Reply:Up to a certain point, the tighter your shoe is the better grip your feet will have on the wall (especially when smearing), although much like with ski boots you sacrifice comfort for the sake of control. Ultimately, how tight your shoes are is a matter of personal preference. I would recommend not wearing socks, however, since doing so necessitates a larger shoe. Do be prepared to get some blisters, though.
